OBAMA'S DIARY 2

Well, Mum said it was going to be a busy month, and I must say my paws have hardly touched the ground.

Lots of going out training and I have improved my 'sit stay' distance and time. I try very hard to please Mum, unlike Freckles who doesn't concentrate like me, and she likes to please herself! Well that's sisters for you.

There were 2 other Munsterlanders at Gundog training last Sunday, Ghillie another pup there for the first time who really seemed to enjoy himself, and Brodie who Mum met last year when he first started training. Mum says that he has come on in leaps and bounds [ isn't that what Munsterlanders do best? ] and he must have been working very hard.

I brought back everything I was asked to, including blind retrieves [? I can see perfectly well thank you! ] and I practiced some hunting too, although I wasn't sure it was ok to go too far ahead. They said I will be fine when I get something called confidence.

We went back to the river which was flowing faster after the heavy rain but it didn't bother me and I swam acoss and back 4 times. Mum was very pleased because when I couldn't find a dummy the first time she blew her whistle and I stopped and sat on the far bank, and waited for her to tell me where to go. It is the first time I had done that so far away from her.

We would have had pictures this time but Mum had  mishap with her mobile phone. I think that's the word she used anyway! When she was moving her hand to tell me to fetch, she knocked the phone out of her pocket and it flew into the river. When everyone stopped laughing a very nice man waded in and fetched it out, though his retrieve is not as quick as mine. Apparently it won't work any more so I really don't understand why they bothered to go in and get it.

When we were out walking a couple of weeks ago, I saw an old lady coming towards us and I was a bit wary of her. She looked a bit strange to me and I think she might have hip dysplasia because of the way she moved. Mum said there was nothing to worry about and she wanted me to go with her to the Nursing Home where she works to meet a lot more old people. I think she was a bit concerned that I might not like the Judge at my first Show as I overheard her saying to one of her friends that the lady who was going to be judging us was 'no Spring chicken'  Well the old folk I met certainly didn't have any feathers and were very kind. They all said I was very handsome, and cuddled me and gave me tit bits so I wouldn't mind going back there again.

Last week Mum said we had to get ready for our first Show. I got a bit bored with all the fiddling about trimming bits off my coat,  then she  showered me and put another coat on me. Excuse me! Would it not have been better just to leave my own coat on which I have been growing all by myself for the past six months? China and Onyx said this happens before each Show they go to and I 'd be wise not to ask too many questions as Mum gets a bit ratty when she is rushing around getting ready. So me and Freckles just looked at each other and pulled faces!

We were all very excited getting in the car on Friday morning. It seemed a long way to Edinburgh, and we didn't have much room after we had picked up Linda and Chance on the way. I hope I grow up to be a special Munsterlander like Chance. I have met him before and he is very polite and friendly.

We had a good sleep on the way to the Show and when we got out of the car I thought Freckles had woken up with a spring up her bottom, she was so excited by all the new smells, and seeing so many other people and dogs. I thought 'oh oh' she's going to get told off in  minute, but Mum just said it was only to be expected! It seems that Freckles gets away with everything.

1st Puppy Dog  SKC Champ Show 2009

My brother Flint was there and he was in the same class as me. He was first and I was 2nd so every one seemed very pleased. The lady who judged us was very nice and didn't look like a chicken at all! As usual Freckles got lots of attention and people kept coming up and saying how pretty she is. I don't mind, I am really very proud of my sister!

Surprisingly she kept all 4 paws on the ground in her class, and she was 2nd too. Uncle Simon who brought our cousin Noodle with him took some photos of us all so you can see what we looked like.

It certainly was an eventful day, and I shall tell you about the car breaking down and how we got home next time I talk to you. Just thinking about it all is making me tired so I am going off to have a sleep!  More news later
